VIH Aviation Group is one of several companies worldwide that is sending up to thirty helicopters to Angola to assist in the up coming parliamentary elections. This transition to democracy comes after 27 years of strive and civil war. It is anticipated that the United Nations will be assisting and supervising the elections along with other outside interested foreign governments and NGOs. VIH Aviation Group is one of several companies worldwide that is sending up to thirty helicopters to Angola to assist in the up coming parliamentary elections. It is anticipated that the United Nations will be assisting and supervising the elections along with other outside interested foreign governments and NGOs. VIHs contribution is six helicopters: three Sikorsky S- 92s and one Eurocopter EC 135 that were dispatched by Antonov from St Johns Newfoundland on Friday August 15 th plus two Sikorsky S-61s and one Bell 212 that were dispatched from Vancouver on Wednesday August 20 th.

This is the 20 passenger / crew compartment located at the rear of the Antonov and above the cargo compartment. It also contains sleeping quarters with six beds and a lavatory.

The rear door loading access has four remotely operated cranes that each have a 5 Ton lifting capacity. Shown here are the main transmissions for the S-61s being loaded. To the inside left is the blade boxes containing all of the blades for the S-61s and the Bell 212.

Photo by: Barry Holmes The fuel truck gives you an idea of the scale and size of the Antonov. The aircraft was taking on 155,000 litres of fuel and there was a fuel truck under both wings. I guess it was still half full ?!?

With the loading completed the ramp has been raised and folded into place and the nose cone is now being lowered.
