6. MSDE Requirements
There are (3) types of requirements that students are required to meet in order to graduate with a Maryland High School Diploma:
Credits;
Service learning;
Assessments

7. Grade Point Average (GPA)
Is presented as both:
Unweighted~ measured on a 4.0 scale and does not account for the difficulty of courses taken
Weighted~ measured on a 5.0 scale and accounts for course difficulty and rigor {Honors & Advanced Placement- AP}

8. Class Rank Summary of academic record achieved during grades 9-11.
Class rank is based upon the weighted cumulative GPA achieved in all coursework
Class rank will be provided twice a year thru transcript distribution.
Senior grades will affect your final GPA and rank.

9. Transcript
Transcript request forms are available in the Counseling Suite
Request should be submitted a minimum of (5) business days before needed
$2 fee per school transcript
Transcript request for scholarships are free
Third party transcript request are not honored
Supplemental Counselor Form(s) must be submitted with the transcript request(s)
Indicate on request if submission is electronic (SEND Edu, Common App, Military Academy, etc.,)
NCAA transcripts are handled by Ms. Wynn

10. Transcripts
Student is responsible for picking up transcript(s) from counselor.
It is the student’s responsibility for mailing transcripts to prospective school(s).
Be sure to check your unofficial transcript for accuracy.
Unofficial transcript given 2x during SY (During Sr. Orientation/Mid-Semester)

11. Letters of Recommendations
Indicate letter of recommendation request for each school to which you apply, if applicable
The request must be submitted (5) business days before the deadline.
Provide a resume’ with your request.
It is students’ responsibility to pick up the letters of recommendation from the School Counseling Office and send to the appropriate schools of your choice.
Please submit SAT/ACT score(s)

12. Early Action vs. Early Decision
Early action is non-binding
Apply early
Early admission decision
Consider acceptance can wait to commit
Apply to other colleges under regular admission
Give college decision no later than May 1st
Early decision is binding
Apply early to first choice schools
Admission decision received in advance (usually December)
If accepted, agrees to attend and offered a financial aid package
Apply to only one college early decision
Send non-refundable deposit well in advance of May 1st
Carefully research your school and consider all pros and cons

13. NCAA
College Bound Student Athletes should register with the eligibility center by their 10th grade year
Athletes should review their school’s list of NCAA- approved core courses
It is the athletes responsibility to provide the NCAA with ACT/SAT scores
Transcript(s)/Athlete academic information is not provided to third party sources (Recruiters, Athletic Directors, Coaches, Teachers, etc.,) It is the athletes/parent responsibility to request information
Transcripts are uploaded to the Eligibility Center 3x during SY- (October, Mid-Semester, June)

14. Scholarships and Acceptance Letters
Please notify Ms. Grow in the Career Center by providing her copies of scholarship(s), awards and college acceptance letters.

15. The Dangers of Failing
Semester and final grades are computed by averaging quarterly numerical grades. To graduate, you must earn passing final grades in courses needed to fulfill the state requirements.
The SSL (Student Service Learning) requirement must be completed. Any senior who has not completed their SSL by May 1, 2019, will not participate in graduation exercises. If you have a question or concern regarding the SSL requirement, please contact Ms. Wyman in Rm
You must take/ pass all HSA/PARCC:
Algebra I/II
English II/III
Biology
LSN-Government

16. The Dangers of Failing
If requirements are not met, eligible students can only repeat failed courses which are offered through summer school.
If all graduation requirements are met by appropriate summer deadlines, students can participate in the summer school graduation exercises and will receive their diploma on August 2019.
