1 NATURAL RESOURCES The parts of the Earth’s environment that are useful or necessary for the survival of living organisms

2 NATURAL RESOURCES Renewable Resources Nearly Perpetual Nonrenewable Resources

3 Any natural resource that is recycled or replaced by nature.
RENEWABLE RESOUCES Any natural resource that is recycled or replaced by nature. Plants, animals, water and other natural resources are constantly being recycled by natural processes

4 RENEWABLE RESOURCES

5 WATER CYCLE

6 NEARLY PERPETUAL RESOURCES
Any natural resource that is in constant supply. Sunlight, wind, geothermal heat, tides and flowing water

7 PERPETUAL RESOURCES

8 NONRENEWABLE RESOURCES
Natural resources that are used up more quickly than they can be replaced by natural processes. Fossil fuels (oil, coal, natural gas), minerals (iron, copper, phosphates)

9 NONRENEWABLE RESOURCES

10 THE THREE R’s OF CONSERVATION
REDUCE - use less of natural resources. REUSE – use an item more than once without changing it or reprocessing it. RECYCLE – a form of reuse that requires changing or reprocessing and item or natural resource.

11 CONSERVATION

12 ALTERNATIVE ENERGY SOURCES
Energy sources used to reduce fossil fuel consumption. Water (Hydroelectric) Power Wind Power Geothermal Power Nuclear Power Solar Power

13 WATER (Hydroelectric ) POWER
Electricity that is produced when the energy of falling water is used to turn the turbines of an electric generator.

14 WIND POWER Electricity that is produced when winds blow at least 32km/h turning the turbines of an electric generator

15 GEOTHERMAL POWER Electricity that is produced when the heat energy from the molten rock under the Earth’s surface is used to produce steam turning the turbines of an electric generator.

16 NUCLEAR POWER Electricity that is produced when nuclear energy is released when billions of atomic nuclei from uranium, a radioactive element, are spit apart in a nuclear fission reaction turning the turbines of an electric generator.

17 SOLAR ENERGY Electricity that is produced from photovoltaic cells that store the radiant energy form the Sun.
