Main objectives: Capacity building and technical assistance in statistics and economics; Coordinating the NSI in member states; Harmonising methods, concepts and nomenclatures; Implementing reliable and pertinent information systems; Managing regional databases. 22/11/2018

8 AFRISTAT’s role Provide technical support for:
Statistical capacity building programmes for NSS and particularly the statistical output needed to implement national policies and take into account the MDGs; Harmonisation programmes within the framework of the statistical systems of Regional Integration Communities. AFRISTAT’s Strategic Work Programme (SWP) : The second SWP covers the period 22/11/2018

National accounting Guide to drawing up national accounts according to SCN93 now available, the version according to SCN2008 is being finalised; Methodologies for drawing up quarterly accounts; ERETES, the tool for drawing up accounts, is available and compatible with SCN2008; Guide for analysing the results of national accounts. 22/11/2018

A) Statistical harmonisation between countries (cont.) Consumer pricing Consumer nomenclature (NCOA) derived from COICOP; Availability of harmonised methodology and a recent production tool for HICP: Phoenix-UEMOA; Definition and description of the scope (reference population, field and nomenclature), sample (basket and observation points), baseline data (baseline year), collection methods, data processing (tools used) and publications; Indices made available according to a predefined schedule. 22/11/2018

Concepts and definitions of indicators for the employment market and the informal sector: Preparation of a handbook of standards, concepts and definitions of indicators on employment and the informal sector; Support for the implementation of harmonised systems for monitoring employment and the informal sector (1.2.3 type survey). Agricultural statistics Methodologies governing vegetable production and herd parameters. 22/11/2018

Support for drawing up NSDS that are fit for purpose, particularly the needs relating to the steering and evaluation of PRSP in Member States: For example, these could include: Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Comoros, Gabon, Mali, Mauritania, Guinea Bissau, Burkina Faso, etc.; Support for drawing up annual statistical production programmes (Burundi, Congo, Niger, Mali, etc.); 22/11/2018

Production of a Guide to the Monitoring and Evaluation of NSDS Results; Support for drawing up a roadmap (Benin, Niger, Togo, Congo, etc.); Mid-term evaluation of NSDS (Burundi, Comoros); Support for peer evaluation (Burkina Faso, Niger, Benin, Congo, Senegal and Mauritania); Institutional Communication: “du Chiffre à l’information”. 22/11/2018

Consolidation of achievements and continued implementation of regulations (nomenclatures, company statistics); Strengthening of the ERETES tool for national accounting and search for funding to produce it as an open source programme Launch of new projects on new themes (climate change, gender, quarterly accounts, SAM) as part of the medium term work programme for ; Development and/or consolidation of partnerships with other African institutions in terms of harmonisation; 22/11/2018

19 Challenges of tomorrow...
Quality approach (traceability): Training to be organised at the sub- regional level (already carried out in Mali in 2013). Help to improve dissemination (draw up a consensual dissemination policy, Open Data initiative in collaboration with the AfDB and Paris21. Support member states in the implementation of actions related to the ratification of the African Statistical Charter. 22/11/2018
