Stalin- has troops in Eastern Europe and keeps them under Soviet control after WWII (does not set them free)
Buffer Zone- Stalin wanted a safety area to prevent another invasion of Soviet Union

9. The (Berlin Wall)
August 13, 1961, East Germany began to block off East Berlin from West Berlin by means of barbed wire and antitank obstacles.
Streets were torn up, and barricades of paving stones were erected.
Tanks gathered at crucial places.
The subway and local railway services between East and West Berlin were interrupted.
Inhabitants of East Berlin and the GDR were no longer allowed to enter West Berlin
At least 100 people were killed at the Berlin Wall, the last of them was Chris Gueffroy (June 2, 1989).
