10 Your task for this week…
Think about The Hobbit, now that you have completed reading it Consider the values, attitudes and beliefs that the author has placed in the book Answers any two of the questions here in your post Does ‘The Hobbit’ reflect Christian beliefs and values? Can you find evidence within the novel that suggests Tolkien was a person of faith? What lessons can we learn from Bilbo’s adventure? Is he a ‘conqueror’ (Zechariah 4:6)? If you had to explain the message the author is conveying in the book, what would it be? Do Bilbo’s actions reflect an attitude of service or self sacrifice? Provide examples to prove or disprove this Does this attitude bring satisfaction and success or failure and loneliness to Bilbo? What minor characters represent more selfish, self seeking attitudes? What eventually becomes of them? Why might this be?
