2 Plot: A Definition Plot: the structure and relationship of actions and events in a text

3 Plot Diagram Plot is usually illustrated with a triangle/mountain image.

4 Plot Points Exposition Rising Action Climax Falling Action
The five plot points on a plot diagram occur in the order that follows: Exposition Rising Action Climax Falling Action Denouement/Resolution

5 Exposition The exposition introduces the characters, background, and setting. Protagonist: main character, often hero of the story Antagonist: character against the protagonist, often villain of the story Setting: the place and time that a story takes place

6 Conflict Conflict: struggle between opposing forces. Man vs. Man
Man vs. Nature Man vs. Society Man vs. Self

7 Rising Action Rising action: events which lead to the climax of the story

8 Climax Climax: the highest point of action in the story

9 Falling Action Falling action: events in the story that lead to the end of the conflict.

10 Denouement/Resolution
Denouement/Resolution: the end of the conflict
