5 An action verb that expresses an action directed toward a person or thing. Transitive verb: Words that receive the action of the transitive verbs are called objects. To find the object: Find the verb 2) Ask Who? or What?

6 EXAMPLE: Tim threw the football.

7 Greg carved the pumpkin.

8 Intransitive verb: expresses action (or tells something about the subject) without passing the action to a receiver. Intransitive verbs never answer the questions “who” or “what”.
