Student Guide Emergency Response

2 Student Responsibilities for Prevention
Pay attention to your school Report any serious rumors or suspicions. If you know of a threat, report it immediately. - Tell a trusted adult. Tell the SRO. Tell your parent. Call the confidential Hot Line Take drills and practices seriously. Respond to all alarms as though they were real.

3 Student Response to Immediate Danger Catastrophic Situations (alarms, explosions, tornado)
Stay calm – move away from immediate danger - follow directions – assist others if possible. Stay with your class and teacher Don’t leave class/school without telling your teacher. If we can’t find you we will assume you are trapped or injured and Emergency Services will begin a search. Turn cell phones off. Excessive calls could overload the system preventing communication with Emergency Agencies. Cell Phones CAN detonate a bomb

4 During an Emergency Remain calm – panic is contagious – help others stay calm. Do not use cell phones Listen to directions of teachers and administrators. Stay with the class and teacher Assist teacher with any injuries If you have been trained in First Aid, follow appropriate steps If you have no training, don’t move the injured person. Put direct pressure on severe bleeding. Get help.

5 Normal classroom procedures will continue;
Soft Lockdown Normal classroom procedures will continue; however, all outdoor classroom activities will be suspended. Trailers will NOT transition and teachers should keep students in their rooms.   The decision whether to bring students into the building who are in trailers will be made based on the specific threat. 

6 Hard Lockdown Stay in room, turn lights off, turn cell phones off, remain calm and quiet and move away from direct sight. An administrator and/or uniformed police officer will come to your room, identify themselves and open the door.

7 Evacuations During class – walk with teacher to assigned section.
During lunch – Students at lunch – leave the commons through the closest safe exit. Teachers will meet students in the front. Class change – exit, then move outside the building to previous teacher’s assigned area. Before school – exit and move to first period teacher’s section. After school – exit closest door and go home as normal. Coach/club sponsor must be able to account for student and how they got home. Record your evacuation location in your agenda.

If we must leave the building We will go to a secure site on campus – We will go to a secure site off campus – Walnut Grove Elem. or Undisclosed location We will dismiss you from the campus, or an alternate site off campus. Students must check out with their teacher prior to being dismissed.

10 Order of dismissal Bus riders Parent pick-up Drivers & passengers
Walkers Teachers with students will check-out each student assigned to them and keep written record of how/who picked them up In all cases dismissal will be slow. We will have to list the names of every student and ‘how’ you got home. Order of dismissal is subject to change if necessary.
