Round 1: ties in with grade card 1 - letters go out November 2016
Round 2: second grade card Feb 2017

If unsuccessful at round 1, students will be given a letter explaining what area(s) he/she needs to improve during the second round

5. Post 16 routes
Young people born on or after September 1st 1997 must stay in some form of education or training until at least their 18th birthday.
Young people have a choice about how they continue in education or training post-16, which could be through:
– An apprenticeship or traineeship.
– Full-time study in a college or with a training provider.
– Full-time work or volunteering combined with part-time education or
training.

6. A starting point
Be as well informed as possible about what further education opportunities are available to school leavers in your local area:
Take advantage of the support from school and careers guidance services such as Connexions, as well as a range online information and fora.
Get as much information about your local learning providers as possible; take advantage of the open events; talk to tutors and students there.
Encourage your child to be ambitious, yet realistic about the pathway they might want to follow.
If your child is considering following an A’ Level route - and possibly even has a specific university in mind – it may be worth checking their entry requirements as specific A’ Level subjects are sometimes a prerequisite for certain degree courses .
Be clear about application processes and deadlines. Take advantage of the support and guidance available.
