Bosnia and Herzegovina voted for independence from Yugoslavia in Large numbers of Serbs lived there. Serbia invaded to force them to stay 1995 NATO air campaign stopped the killing. Forced Milosevic to end war. Bosnian War

6 Srebrenica and Tulza Srebrenica - Muslim Stronghold in Bosnia
UN tried to protect it (Dutch) Dutch did get many women and children out Serbs massacred over 8,000 men age 16 and up – worst since WWII Tulza – massacre of 70 people Srebrenica and Tulza

7 Serbia – led by Slobodan Milošević tried to take power
Strikes and riots – called out the army Kosovo (albanians) wanted independence Serbs may have ethnic cleansed as much as 200,000 1999 – NATO air war destroyed the Serb army. NATO peacekeepers (KFOR) (Kosovo Force) entered. Milosevic died during trial Kosovo War

Helped keep James Meredith out of the University of Mississippi – segregation Mississippi National Guard

9 US 10th Mountain Division
Elite group of the US airborne. Specifically trained to fight in harsh regions and weather. Not really mountain anymore Light infantry Bob Dole US 10th Mountain Division
