2 What is an Adverb? A word that modifies: A word that modifies:
a verb The police officer performed admirably. What is an Adverb? A word that modifies: an adjective The bulb was too dim to light the room. Mark brought a very good dip to the party. Many adverbs end in “ly” Some adverbs do not end in “ly” I am very excited. They are quite tired after practice. A word that modifies: another adverb She ran so quickly to the door. Jessie sang very loudly at the concert.

How? Lenny expertly rode his bike in the race. How did he ride? When? Mandy went to the store earlier. When did she go? Where? Sarah got lost on her way to math class, so she turned around. Where did she turn? How much? To what extent? The soup is too salty To what extent is the soup salty?

Jeffrey always wanted to be an astronaut. Aaron’s father sang the song loudly. The small girl eagerly licked her ice cream cone. My parents will arrive tomorrow. The angry bear growled menacingly.
