6 Adverbs answer the following questions: HOW? –When the football was snapped, Troy moved quickly and made the tackle. WHEN? –He celebrated after making the play. HOW OFTEN? –Mrs. Selby never assigns too much homework. WHERE? –It is here. TO WHAT EXTENT? –After football Troy was very tired.

7 How Adverbs How adverbs USUALLY end with -ly. Turn around slowly. Open the bottle carefully. The girl sang sweetly. The baby cried loudly.

8 When Adverbs The girl is going to the store now. She went yesterday. I want a drink of water next. She placed after me in the race.

9 How Often Adverbs We rarely have homework in Language Arts. Sometimes we play games. I usually go to bed late. My family goes to Atlanta frequently.

10 Where Adverbs We walked around the house. The cat hid under the house. We ran through the kitchen. Put the pot there.

11 To What Extent Adverbs Very Too Almost Also Only Enough So Quite Almost Rather

12 Many adverbs are made by adding –ly onto the end of an adjective. from adjectives. Some are below. Adjectives Adverbs Kind Kindly Happy Happily Wonderful Wonderfully Loud Loudly Sad Sadly Beautiful Beautifully Sweet Sweetly

13 Examples Kind The boy kindly carried the old lady’s bags. Strange It was strangely quiet in the village.

14 . ly Some words that end in -ly are not adverbs. ly Some adjectives end in -ly too. For Example: 1.Sam was feeling very lonely. 2.She was wearing a lovely dress. 3.It was a very lively party. ALL ARE ADJECTIVES, NOT ADVERBS!!! Note

16 You Try It… Identify the adverbs in the following sentences. 1.Billy is too tall. 2.Quickly he finished his homework. 3.Tommy moved quite slowly. 4.My friends will be gone soon.
