Battle of San Jacinto (April 21, 1836) - Texans under Sam Houston shouted “remember the Alamo, remember Goliad” as they defeated the Mexicans and captured Santa Anna Texas assumed they would be annexed as a territory or state by the U.S., but slavery stood in their way- The Republic of Texas lasted for 9 years Texas was annexed in March of 1845
