10. G. Effects of the emancipation proclamation:
Lincoln’s plan freed the slaves in the rebellious south but not the Border states; creation of the 54th Massachusetts (first all black regiment).

11. H. Surrender at Appomattox Court House:
Lee surrenders to Grant in Virginia.

12. I. Results of the War:
Power of the national government strengthened* - no more threat of secession.
Destruction of the South* - Gen. Sherman’s “March to the Sea” where he destroys plantations, towns, railroads and burns Atlanta to the ground.
End of slavery* - allows for the 13th amendment to be passed and ratified.
