MASTERY TEST REVIEW

Ceramics Objects made of clay

Tone The dull version of a color. It can be created with grey, brown, or the complement to the color.

Two-Point Perspective
Shows a 3-D object represented in TWO dimensions

Pop Art Used subject matter such as comic strips, soda bottles, and soup cans and turned them into icons of the day. Andy Warhol

Slip A suspension of clay in water
When uncolored: it is used for joining together sections of raw clay When colored: it is used for decorating leather-hard clay

Color Harmony, Color Scheme
A is a relationship of colors on the color wheel, and a is the specific colors in it

Landscape Imagery of outdoor scenery

Kiln The furnace in which the clay is fired.

Triad What color harmony is shown here?

Hand-building Using various techniques to sculpt with clay. -pinch
-coil -slab

Leather-hard A condition where the clay is too firm to bend or mold yet soft enough to still be carved.

Coil method Involves rolling out long, round strands of clay which are joined to other pieces through scoring and slipping.

Orthogonal Lines Lines that converge to the vanishing point in a perspective drawing.

Bisque-ware Clay that has been fired once at a low temperature.

Monochromatic Using one color + the values of that color

Pinch method Involves opening up a vessel using the thumb and forefinger

Vanishing Point The point where all receding lines converge in a work

Firing When clay is hardened through the process of heating it to a high temperature in a kiln. Doing so fuses together all of the clay particles to a durable state.

Glaze A coating of material applied to ceramics before firing that forms a glass-like surface which makes the clay non-porous

Color The reflection of light utilized through hue, intensity, and value

Sgraffito Scratching through a surface to reveal a lower layer of contrasting color. -Working in the subtractive method by taking away the material

Slab method Involves pressing the clay under a roller and then cutting the flattened clay to the desired size/shape.

Green-ware A state in which the clay is dry and unfired. This makes the clay very brittle and easily broken.

Sculpture In The Round Sculpture freed from any background plane. It is meant to be seen from all view-points. -Working in the additive method to build up the form of your animal
