13 Additional Information

14 Question: After completing the Amazon Tax Exemption Program (ATEP) process for my Amazon account, will all items that I purchase on Amazon going forward automatically have the sales tax removed? Answer: Yes, the sales tax will automatically be removed but only if the items you’re purchasing are sold and fulfilled by Amazon.com LLC. Items that are sold and fulfilled by Amazon.com LLC will have the sales tax exemption automatically applied and no sales tax will be charged on those items. Third party sellers selling through Amazon will not be exempt. You will not see an option to remove the tax for third party sellers. In order to apply sales tax to any personal purchases (this would apply if you share your work and personal Amazon Account that was used to enroll into the Amazon Tax Exemption Program) while placing an order you will see at the “Review Your Order” page an option to remove the tax exemption. Under the item description it will show "tax exemption applied" and it gives you the option to “remove.” Note that this will not apply to your entire order; you must do this for each line item being purchased that you would like tax exemption removed from. See below example with option highlighted in yellow: Please note you don't have the option to remove tax or apply tax for orders that are sold and fulfilled by third party sellers on Amazon.

15 Question: I was charged sales tax by one third party seller but not another. Why? And how do I get the exemption? Answer: You will not be given the option to remove the sales tax from items purchased through a third party seller. Amazon has teamed with many other third party sellers, and as such your order may contain items from one or more of these online third party sellers. Each of these online sellers may have different sales tax collection obligations depending upon their business procedures and the location of their operations. Amazon will calculate sales tax on the sellers' behalf in accordance with their instructions, which may vary depending on the tax laws in each state. It's possible that some items in your order may be taxed, while others may not be. Therefore, if your items are fulfilled by any third party seller, and if the sales tax is charged on seller fulfilled items, you must contact that seller directly about your tax refund request. You can visit the following link provided by Amazon for information about contacting sellers: Question: How can I determine which items are sold and fulfilled by Amazon.com and which items are not? Answer: For all the items that are sold and fulfilled by Amazon, on the product detail page it’s clearly noted as "Ships from and sold by Amazon.com." and when you proceed to check out, you will see the seller information as "Sold by: Amazon.com LLC" Question: Do I need to have a Prime Amazon account in order to enroll in the Amazon Tax Exemption Program (ATEP)? Answer: No, the Amazon Tax exemption program is not related to having a Prime membership. You can enroll regardless of having a Prime membership or not.
