2 UN REDD Response to: FCCC Decision 2/CP.13: Reducing emissions from deforestation in developing countries. Coalition for Rainforest Nations and donor requests for joint UN action Country requests for support for REDD programmes Relevant organizations and stakeholders invited to support Party’s efforts: • to support capacity-building, provide technical assistance, facilitate the transfer of technology to improve, inter alia, data collection, estimation of emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, monitoring and reporting • address the institutional needs of developing countries to estimate and reduce emissions from deforestation and forest degradation; • undertake demonstration activities

One national REDD programme bringing together multiple initiatives Demonstration activities to feed into UNFCCC process Flexible and adaptable to reflect UNFCCC decisions for long-term REDD activities “Delivering as One UN” Build on existing national and international processes and experiences, including FCPF Avoid parallel structures

4 Institutional Arrangements
Utilising the UN Country Team mechanisms Linked with UNDAFs agreed to by countries Building on comparative advantages of FAO, UNDP and UNEP and to include partners Multi-donor Trust Fund

5 Country Programming Identified and led by the government
Vary from country to country Establish cross-sectoral & multi-stakeholder responses Support national processes that facilitate the involvement of national stakeholders, including forest-dependent local communities Help countries to build their own capacities

6 Indicative Country Actions
REDD dialogue & consultations REDD assessment and monitoring (data collection and management, monitoring, reporting, capacity building etc.) National REDD strategy development (readiness strategies, needs assessments, co-benefits etc.) REDD payment structuring and distribution REDD demonstration activities (testing out the above)
