2 Ago 2008 Submission of Paraguays request to be part of UN-REDD Pre-scoping mission: Meetings with authorities, local NGOs network and IP Organizations. Approval of Paraguays entry into UN-REDD UN-REDD presentation by SEAM and INFONA to CAPI and CSO UN-REDD mission, meetings with authorities, ITAIPU, local NGOs network, IP organizations, and forest committees UN-REDD Technical team initiates drafting process of the NJP New SEAM minister and officers come on board Training on CC issues and NJP consultation process with local stakeholders NJP under development - NJP is completed. - NJP is reviewed by UN-REDD agencies. - NJP is validated by a Civil Society or indigenous peoples representative. UN-REDD PARAGUAY MILESTONES Sep 2008Dec 2008 Feb 2009 Apr 2009 May 2009 Jun 2009 NJP is submitted to UN-REDD Secretariat for review and approval

3 Project Goal: By the year 2012 Paraguay is REDD-ready and contributes to the reduction of emissions due to deforestation and degradation of forests at national level Project Objective: To assist the Government of Paraguay in the establishment of a National UN-REDD Programme Outcome 1: Improved institutional and technical capacity of Government and Civil Society organizations to manage REDD activities in Paraguay Outputs for Outcome 1: 1.REDD National Action Plan 2.National system to measure and evaluate reduction of emissions from deforestation and degradation of forests 3.National system of carbon accounting and data management 4.Equitable and transparent system of payments and benefit sharing Outcome 2: Capacity established to manage REDD at local level Outputs for Outcome 2: 1.Demonstration project designed and implemented Outcome 3: Increased awareness and support to REDD at national, departmental and municipal levels Outputs for Outcome 3 1.National awareness campaign on REDD 2.Consensus-building on REDD with Indigenous Peoples and other stakeholders Key Outcomes and Outputs: Extracted from the Draft NJP Logical Framework Matrix NJP-Paraguay currently under development

4 1.Confirmation of REDD working groups composition: Technical team (INFONA, SEAM, CAPI): Several meetings and work sessions have been held, but the team has not been officially constituted yet. UN-REDD Working Group or Grupo Impulsor UN- REDD : Same as above, meetings were held but there is no official UN-REDD Working Group yet. National Environment Council (CONAM). Discussions are under way to faciliate the constitution of the UN-REDD working group UN-REDD NJP Next steps/Challenges

5 2. Agreement between SEAM and INFONA on implementation/coordination arrangements for UN-REDD 3. Completion of Indigenous Peoples training program on climate change 4. Indigenous Peoples consensus/validation of UN- REDD proposal UN-REDD NJP Next steps/Challenges

6 1. The UN-REDD NJP will complement other REDD initiatives undertaken by local universities and NGOs. 2. SEAM has obtained financing from JICA to install CO 2 monitoring devices and other equipment for an estimated value of US$ 3 m. 3. WWF has offered to finance IP training on CC and REDD Complementarity with other initiatives
