2 DEFINITION An imperative sentence gives a command or makes a request.
It ends with a period. An exclamatory sentence expresses strong emotion. An exclamatory sentence ends with an exclamation point..

3 EXAMPLES Do experiments to learn about the water cycle.

4 EXERCISE A Underline the sentences that are imperative
1. Fill a kettle with water. 2. Put the kettle on the burner. 3. Soon you’ll see steam rising from the spout. 4. Watch out! 5. The steam is very hot!

5 EXECISE B Determine the type of sentence and needed punctuation.
1. Place an ice cube on a dish 2. Set the dish in a sunny area 3. Record the time and date 4. Watch the ice cube melt 5. Write the time the ice melts completely 6. Be careful 7. Don’t spill the water 8. Now watch the water evaporate
