The direct object is a noun (or nouns) that receives the action of the verb or shows the result of the action. Hence a direct object answers the question: Whom? or What? After a verb of action.

The direct object noun receives the action of the verb Ex. I clean the kitchen. The noun kitchen receives the action of the verb because that is what is being cleaned. Remember just ask yourself: What is being cleaned? The kitchen

The direct object noun receives the action of the verb Ex. I take care of the baby. The noun baby receives the action of the verb because that is whom is being taken care of. Remember just ask yourself: Whom is being taken care of? The baby

The Direct Object Pronoun takes the place of a direct object noun. We use pronouns to avoid having to repeat a noun. Ex. I clean the kitchen. ⇒ I clean it. Ex. I take care of the baby. ⇒ I take care of him.

However, if there are 2 verbs in the sentence you have a second option: → You can choose to attach the direct object pronoun to the infinitive verb: Ej. (Yo) Voy a limpiarla. o Ej. (Yo) La voy a limpiar.

Use direct object pronouns to refer to someone or something already mentioned to avoid repetition. 1st person (singular & plural) and 2nd person (singular & plural) only refer to people. 3rd person direct object pronouns can refer to people or things and agree in gender and number with the noun being replaced.
