3 Grammar Review When swimming in the ocean, Russell always wears orange water-wings, a bathing cap, and goggles because he does not want to be pulled out to sea. Breaking down and crawling into her bed, Zari, the girl dressed in camouflage, whimpered until she fell asleep.

4 Opening- Types of Irony
You have five minutes to complete the following: Name the three types of irony. Give an example of the three types of irony. What are the two reasons why an author would use Irony?

5 Task- “The Necklace” .Read the text “The Necklace”
Guided Reading Focus: Identify exposition and plot. Author’s use of irony.

6 Text Analysis Complete the following activities:
Create a graphic organizer or chart that categorizes both the exposition (setting and characters) and the plot (conflict, rising action, climax, and resolution). Extended Response- What type of irony is used in the text? Explain how the author uses irony? What was the author’s purpose in using irony in the text? BCR- What is the theme of the text? State what you think the theme is of the short story. Support your ideas with two examples for how the author develops the theme over the text.
