4 Now It’s Your Turn! Now that you know a little bit about me, it’s time to introduce yourselves to me and your classmates! Turn to your neighbor and share with them what you wrote on your “All About Me” sheet. Make sure that you pay attention to what your partner is saying because you will have to introduce them to the class. Make sure to include their name, where they’re from, and at least three interesting facts about your partner. Everyone will go, so be ready to get up and speak. You will each have three minutes to introduce yourself to your partners. READY, SET, GO!

5 Why Do You Need This Class?
You each took this class for a reason – what is that? On a piece of paper, write down why you personally feel you need to improve your public speaking skills. We will create a class list of what you want to learn and improve upon. After making your list, come up with an idea of what YOU need to do this semester to improve your speaking skills.

6 What Goes Into a Speech? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abKIKVFYY08
What do they do well? What do you notice about their speech? Body language? The words they say? What is something they do that you could use or improve upon? What do they not do well? What is something that you can learn from them? What is something you would definitely NOT do?

7 Personal Goals Now that you’ve seen a few examples of public speaking (good and bad!) you are going to develop your personal goals for the semester. What are 3-5 specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, and timely goals that you want to work towards this semester? These will be turned in at the end of class, and you will actively work to attain these goals throughout the semester, revisiting them personally with Ms. Murphy throughout the course.
