3 Results of the French and Indian War 1. British territorial claims greatly expanded in America. 2. British debt grew in an attempt to finance an ever-expanding war. 3. Resentment towards American colonists grew in Parliament among those who saw Americans as unwilling to financially support a war on their behalf. 4. American colonists unified for the first time against a common enemy. 5. Colonial militias saw themselves as volunteers or a "people's army" in contrast to the authoritarian and coercive British army. 6. 11 In 1772, Samuel Adams of Boston created the first Committee of Correspondence, Exchange of ideas in letters and pamphlets among members. Led to dozens of similar discussion groups in towns throughout the colonies. Uniting colonists, distributing information, and organizing colonial voices of opposition.

22 June 1777, the first American flag was created Betsy Ross sewed this flag to boost the confidence of Washington’s soldiers Belief that if the soldiers saw this flag that represents them, they will know what their freedom will look like and continue fighting for it.

23 September 3, 1783 Ben Franklin and Sam Adams went to sign agreement with King George III to end the American Revolutionary War

24 13 colonies became 13 states Each state was independent and free Own money system Different laws created Each state more powerful than central government Articles of Confederation failed

25 Constitutional Convention 1787 in Philadelphia 1 Representative from each stated except Rhode Island Purpose of convention: to create a central government for the 13 independent states 12 Representatives wrote Constitution in 3 months July 2 nd, 1790 Constitution was adopted
