1 Getting to Know the High School
Welcome Class of 2022

2 What is a Semester? At the high school, the school year is divided into 2 semesters. Each semester consists of 3 marking periods. The first semester begins on the first day of school and ends with the close of the third marking period in January. The second semester begins with the start of the fourth marking period in January and ends on the last day of school. You will have one set of classes during the first semester and an entirely new set during the second semester.

4 How does the schedule work?
The high school schedule is divided into four blocks per day. Each block consists of two periods Block 1 - Periods 1 and 2 Block 2 - Periods 3 and 4 Block 3 - Periods 5 and 6 Block 4 - Periods 7 and 8

HOMEROOM 7:30-7:40 Block 1 – PD 1 & 2 PD 1 7:44-8:26 (Skinny Period) PD 2 8:30-9:12 Block 2 – PD 3 & 4 PD 3 9:16-9:58 PD 4 10:02-10:44 Block 3 – PD 5 & 6 A Lunch 10:48-11:18 PD 5 10:48-11:30 PD 5 11:22-12:04 B Lunch 11:34-12:04 PD 6 11:34-12:16 PD 6 12:08-12:50 C lunch 12:20-12:50 Block 4 – PD 7 & 8 PD 7 12:54-1:36 PD 8 1:40-2:27 (Dismissal- Bus Riders then All Others)

6 Required Classes for Your 9th Grade Year
Math Course depends on Math in 8th Grade English 9 Required for all 9th Graders US History Honors Course is Available Science Environmental Science or Biology; Honors Courses are Available 9th Grade Wellness Digital Foundations World Language Spanish I, German I, or French I (Students may opt to take during later years)

7 What other types of classes can I take next year?
Additional higher level courses in Math, Science, and Social Studies Classes that are optional and not required for all students (Electives) Electives are available in the fields of Music, World Language, STEAM, and Family Consumer Science A listing of all courses can be found in the GAHS Program of Studies

9 How do I graduate from High School?
Every high school course you take will go on to your transcript When you take and pass a class, you earn a credit for that class In order to earn your high school diploma, you must fulfill all graduation requirements

10 During your time at the High School, you need to pass:

11 Why are your grades so important?
The grades you earn in your classes have a direct affect on your grade point average (GPA). Your GPA is an extremely important factor when applying for colleges, scholarships, and employment The grades you earn will have a direct affect on your opportunities in the future. Please the GAHS Program of Studies to see how GPA is calculated

12 Latin Honors System A distinction bestowed upon deserving students at graduation Students will receive a cord to be worn during the ceremony The honor will be noted as their name is called allowing the students individualized recognition for their academic achievements

13 Latin Honors System Cum Laude
Meaning “with honor,” cum laude distinction awarded to graduating students earning a weighted GPA of 3.50 – 3.74 Magna Cum Laude Meaning "with great honor,” magna cum laude distinction awarded to graduating students earning a weighted GPA of 3.75 – 3.99 Summa Cum Laude Meaning "with highest honor,” summa cum laude distinction awarded to graduating students earning a weighted GPA of 4.0 – higher
