2 Sharyland High School Student Orientation Block Scheduling
How is the block schedule different from the Jr. High schedule? The daily schedule will consist of four (4) ninety (90) minute blocks and one (1) forty-five (45) minute block. How much time will students have between each block? Students will have a seven (7) minute passing period. How many credits can a student earn each school year? Students can earn nine (7 to 9) credits per year, for a total of thirty-five to thirty-six (35-36) credits over the four years in high school. Will students be able to participate in athletics and/or band for four (4) years? Yes.

3 GPA (Grade Point Average)
Only the core classes are calculated into the Grade Point Average taken in grades 9-12…….. English Math Science Social Studies Courses taken through Summer School, Ed Options, AEP, Credit By Exam or off campus programs are not calculated into the GPA

5 Foundation High School Program
Graduation Program Foundation High School Program Beginning with the school year, the state adopted a new graduation plan known as the Foundation High School Program. The program consists of 22 credits with the opportunity to earn 4 additional credits (for a total of 26 credits) in one of the endorsement areas. In addition, a student may earn the Distinguished Level of Achievement as well as Performance Acknowledgments by completing certain additional requirements.

ELA – 4 Credits (English I, English II, English III, and Advanced Course) Math – 3 Credits (Algebra I, Geometry, and Advanced Course) Science – 3 Credits (Biology, IPC or additional Advanced Course, Advanced Course) Social Studies – 3 Credits (World Geography or World History, U.S. History, Government, Economics) LOTE (Language other than English) - 2 Credits (In the same LOTE or Computer Programming Language) Fine Arts- 1 Credit Physical Education – 1 Credit Electives- 5 Credits (to include Technology Application (1) and Professional Communication(.5)

8 Foundation High School Program with endorsements-26 credits
ELA – 4 Credits (English I, English II, English III, and Advanced Course) Math – 4 Credits (Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II and Advanced Science –4 Credits (Biology, IPC or additional Advanced Course, Advanced Course and Advanced Course ) Social Studies – 3 Credits (U.S. History, Government, Economics, World Geography or World History) LOTE (Language other than English) - 2 Credits (In the same LOTE) Fine Arts- 1 Credit Physical Education – 1 Credit Electives- 7 Credits (to include technology application and Professional Communication) Curriculum requirements for one or more endorsements 1 Arts and Humanities 2 Business and industry 3 Public Services 4 STEM 5 Multidisciplinary Studies A student may earn a Distinguished level of Achievement by successfully completing: FHSP Complete at least one endorsement 4 Credits in Science 4 Credits in Math, to include Algebra II

9 WHAT IS AN ENDORSEMENT? An endorsement is a career pathway.
1. Arts and Humanities 2. Business and Industry 3. Public Service 4. STEM 5. Multidisciplinary Studies An endorsement must be selected prior to entering the 9th grade.

Includes courses directly related to: Political Science World Languages Cultural studies English Literature History Fine Arts

11 Endorsement #2 Business & Industry
Includes courses directly related to: Accounting Information Technology Communications Architecture Finance Construction HVAC Graphic Design Marketing Logistics Agricultural science Welding Automotive tech Database management

12 Endorsement #3 Public Service
Includes courses directly related to: Health Sciences and Occupations Education and Training Law Enforcement Human Services

13 Endorsement #4 STEM Science Technology Engineering Advanced Math
Includes courses directly related to: Science Technology Engineering Advanced Math Algebra 2, Chemistry, and Physics are required courses for this endorsement.

14 Endorsement #5 Multidisciplinary Studies
Allows a student to select courses from the curriculum of each endorsement area and earn credits in a variety of advanced courses from multiple content areas sufficient to complete the distinguished level of achievement.

15 A student may earn a Distinguished level of Achievement by successfully completing:
Foundation High School Program At least one Endorsement 4 credits in Science 4 credits in Mathematics, to include Algebra II Must earn a Distinguished Level of Achievement to qualify for top 10 % automatic admission.

16 Performance Acknowledgement
A student may earn a performance acknowledgment for outstanding performance: In dual credit courses (12 hours or more with a grade of a “B” or better) In bilingualism and bi-literacy (Showing proficiency in English and a 2nd language) On an AP test or IB exam (minimum score of a 3) On the PSAT, the ACT-Plan, the SAT or the ACT Commended on PSAT, College readiness score on Plan, 1250 on SAT, 28 on ACT 5. For earning a nationally or internationally recognized business or industry certification or license.

21 Dual Credit Core Complete Academy
Dual credit courses include both academic courses as well as technical courses. These courses are stepping stones from high school to college, serving as a path to academic degree programs or college-level workforce education courses. Studies show that dual credit increases the likelihood that a student will complete high school, and enroll in and persist in college. Decreases cost of tuition and fees for students by accelerating time to degree. New graduates enter the workforce sooner and begin to earn wages, benefiting themselves and the economy. 42 semester credit hour (SCH) core curriculum at one institution to transfer the entire set of completed courses to another Texas higher education institution without having to repeat any core courses.

22 Dual Credit Core Complete Academy Requirements
Meet Pre-AP Course Standards and successfully complete 2 Pre-AP core courses during freshman (9th grade) year. Submit a completed Apply Texas Application online at indicating Dual Credit. Take and successfully pass the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment (or TSI exemption scores). The South Texas College Academic Placement scores are as follows: TSI Reading: 351+ TSI Writing: Multiple Choice 340/ Essay score 4 –or- Multiple Choice 339/ Essay score 5 TSI Math: 350+ You are TSI exempt if you submit verification that you have completed one of the following: ACT: 23 Composite with a 19 English and 19 Math SAT: 1070 combined score (Verbal/Critical Reading and Math) with a 500 Verbal/Critical Reading and 500 Math  **IMPORTANT: Students MUST maintain a 2.0 grade point average in ALL college courses. Any grade below a “C” will result in permanent removal from the program**
