Backwash Method
Depends on water, solids loading, and chemical feeds
Water wash: Standard, least cost, least effective
Air followed by water: Optional, higher cost, more expensive
Improved cleaning effectiveness needed if iron bacteria, polymer feed, or high solids present
Extends media life and helps prevent mud balling and channeling
