1 Plans for the next results
2011 Census Plans for the next results Introductions… I’ll just spend a few moments giving you an overview of our plans for the next set of 2011 Census results which will be released over the coming months.

2 What has been released? July 2012: Population by 5 year age band at district level September 2012: Population by single year of age at district level So first of all, a very quick review of what results have been released so far…. In July ONS released a table on the population by 5 year age band at district level. For Milton Keynes it showed that the Milton Keynes Population was 248,800 in This is an increase of around 36,000 people (or 17%) since Which makes us the 7th fastest growing local authority between The population total is slightly higher than what we would expect based on past ONS estimates. We estimated the 2011 population to be 245,750 around 3,000 lower And then last month ONS released the population by single year of age at district level.

3 Milton Keynes Age Profile
So this graph provides an example of the most detailed data you can get at the moment. It compares the age profile of Milton Keynes with England. So you can see that Milton Keynes has a greater proportion of 0-18 years olds than England as a whole, less years, probably in part at least as a result of this age group moving away to university. We have a higher proportion of people aged but a smaller proportion in the 60+ age groups. SO that’s currently the most detailed information we have. Now I shall go on to describe what ONS will be releasing next and what our current plans will be for it. They are not set in stone so if you have any comments or queries or ideas to help as I go along please feel free to ask.

4 November: Keys Statistics Data at District, LSOA and OA Level
What's Next? November: Keys Statistics Data at District, LSOA and OA Level So what are ONS releasing next? Well sometime in November, they haven’t released the specific date yet, they will be releasing the Key Statistics Data at district, lower super output are and output area level.

5 Key Statistics Tables Age structure
Health and provision of unpaid care Marital and civil partnership status Accommodation type Living arrangements Tenure Household composition Rooms, bedrooms and central heating Lone parent households with children Car or van availability Ethnic group Communal establishments & residents National identity Qualifications and students Ethnic national identity Economic activity Country of birth Hours worked Passports held Industry Household language Occupation Religion NS-SeC The Key statistics tables are a set of 26 tables which provide basic information on the characteristics of the population. Here is the list of the 26 tables. So you can see that this release will tell us about the ethnicity of the population, the religion, the accommodation type, the economic activity, the qualifications etc. These are tables which will tell us the numbers in each group and not any further information. For example it will tell us how many people reported their health as being poor but we won’t yet know any further information for example about the age of those people reporting poor health. That information will come later. So that’s what’s going to be released in November.

6 Key Statistics Tables Age structure
Health and provision of unpaid care Marital and civil partnership status Accommodation type Living arrangements Tenure Household composition Rooms, bedrooms and central heating Lone parent households with children Car or van availability Ethnic group Communal establishments & residents National identity Qualifications and students Ethnic national identity Economic activity Country of birth Hours worked Passports held Industry Household language Occupation Religion NS-SeC I have highlighted in green the ones that are new tables this time. Mainly revolving around national identity, passport and language.

7 Key Statistics Tables Age structure
Health and provision of unpaid care Marital and civil partnership status Accommodation type Living arrangements Tenure Household composition Rooms, bedrooms and central heating Lone parent households with children Car or van availability Ethnic group Communal establishments & residents National identity Qualifications and students Ethnic national identity Economic activity Country of birth Hours worked Passports held Industry Household language Occupation Religion NS-SeC I have highlighted in orange the ones that have changed format from last year making comparisons hard. So the health question has different response categories from Good, Fairly good and Not Good to Very good, good ,fair, bad and very bad Industry has change industrial classifications Others had minor issues like changes in ages in the economic categories and ethnicity has moved Chinese into Asian rather than Other and added and arab option in the other category. ONS feel this won’t make too much of a difference.

8 Add the tables to the MKi Observatory
We shall firstly add all the key statistics data to the observatory tables section so that all the data is easy to find. It will include data for all regions and districts in England to enable users to compare MK with other areas.

9 Borough Profile Analysis Tables Graphs Maps
We will also create a borough profile document. This will include the key data and messages from the key statistics tables. We will include tables of data, graphs, maps and analysis. To the right is a very quick mock up of the sort of thing we will be creating. It will be quite detailed so maybe a couple of pages on each key statistics table.

10 November: Keys Statistics Data at District, LSOA and OA Level
What’s Next? November: Keys Statistics Data at District, LSOA and OA Level All 26 Tables uploaded onto the observatory Create a ‘Borough Profile’ based on the data December/February: Keys Statistics Data at Ward and Parish Level All tables uploaded onto the observatory Ward, Estate and Parish Profiles Census Atlas Slightly later on ONS will be releasing the same tables but for Wards and Parishes. And around that time we will have had a chance to estimate the estates figures from OAs. All this data we shall upload onto the observatory tables section. We shall also create ward profiles which will contain some text and commentary around the data. And also Estate and parish profiles which will just contain tables/graphs of data.

11 Ward Profiles 23 Profiles will include Analysis Tables Graphs Maps
The ward profiles like the borough profile will be quite detailed. They will include tables of data and graphs and maps to visualise the data. But they will also include commentary picking out the main point from the data for the ward.

12 Estate and Parish Profiles
Approx 115 Estate Profiles Approx 48 Parish Profiles Similar to 2001 Estate Profiles No text Tables of data Because there are so many estates (around 115) and parishes (around 48) we won’t have the resource to create detailed profiles of estates and settlements with text analysing the data. So we shall create profiles with the tables of data in comparing the area with the Milton Keynes average. The profile on the slide is an example from I think the new profile won’t look dissimilar to that. It will be a good resource for people wanting to get an overview of an estate or parish. Of course if anybody does want extra analysis of specific estate we can do that but it would be on a request by request basis.

13 Census Atlas To help visualise the data at estate level we will also create a ‘Census atlas’. This is a series of thematic maps based on the key statistics data. Again here’s an example of what we did with the 2001 Census. So this page from the atlas highlights the proportion of each estate containing each qualification level.

14 Late 2013/2014: Travel to Work and Migration Data
What’s after that? July 2013: Detailed Characteristics Data at District, Ward, LSOA and OA Level Create ‘Theme Reports’ based on the data Update Borough Profile with more detailed information Late 2013/2014: Travel to Work and Migration Data So all that data will be released between November and February exact dates unknown. Then in July More detailed information on the characteristics of the population will be released at district, ward, LSOA and OA level. This is detailed cross tabulated data - so information like health by the housing tenure, qualifications by ethnic group or industry by age. We will use this data to create ‘theme reports.’ so for example we might do a detailed report on those aged looking at their health, economic activity, household composition etc. These will be on a request by request basis. Then probably later in 2013 or in 2014 ONS will release detailed travel to work and migration data.

15 Approximate Timetable
To keep up to date join the Census mailing list So those are our current plans with what we are going to do with the Census data. Here shows the approximate timetable for the work. But as ONS haven’t released specific dates these are subject to change. So will upload the key stats tables as soon a they are out in November and start work on the borough profile. In January upload the ward and LSOA level data. In Feb have the Ward and Estate profiles and the Census atlas ready. In march upload the parish and estate KS tables. In April complete the parish profiles. After the more detailed information is released in the summer of 2013 we will create theme reports as requests, upload theme tables and update the borough profile. As all the timescales are subject to change it you want to keep up to date please add yourself to the census mailing list and we will you when we publish any of the above information.

16 Any Ideas, Comments, Questions?
2011 Census Any Ideas, Comments, Questions? So those are our plans so far. Are there any further ideas of what we can do, or questions or comments?
