4 Financial Aid Options Scholarships Grants Work-Study Awards Loans
Free money awarded to students of promise in academics, athletics, arts, etc…( & based on merit. Grants Money awarded based on family financial need usually doesn’t have to be repaid. Ex: Pell Grant Work-Study Awards Money is earned by a student through a job on or near campus while attending school and does not have to be repaid. Loans Money that must be paid back with interest.

6 Who Gets Federal Student Aid?
demonstrate financial need; be a U.S. citizen or eligible noncitizen; have a valid Social Security number; be registered with Selective Service if you’re a male; be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a regular student in an eligible degree or certificate program; be enrolled at least half-time to be eligible for Direct Loan Program funds; maintain satisfactory academic progress in college; sign statements on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

7 Applying for Aid The student completes the FAFSA in October of their senior year. 8 A Push for Efficiency take Dual Credit Classes
ENGL 1301 & 1302 HIST 1301 & 1302 MATH 1314 & 1342 GOVT 2305 BIOL 1406 & 1407 VARIOUS ONLINE COURSES Take the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) assessment at the end of 10th grade to qualify for college courses. NCAA Eligibility Center Take rigorous courses to prepare for the ACT/SAT Take the PSAT as a 10th grade student. Register with the NCAA clearinghouse as a Junior.

29 You will be able to take college courses with all endorsements if you meet TJC requirements of passing the TSI. To take a college math course in high school, Algebra II is a prerequisite. To take a college science course in high school, Physics is a prerequisite.

32 Grade Point Average (GPA)
GPA is calculated using the first and second semester grade from all English, mathematics, science, and social studies courses Weighted courses will compensate for extra level of difficulty in the core curriculum areas.

36 STAAR Graduation EOCs English I English II Algebra I Biology
U.S. History A scale score of 4000 on Algebra I EOC and a passing grade in Algebra II will give you a waiver to take a college level math class in high school. A scale of score of 4000 or higher on the English II EOC will give you a waiver to take all other college level courses in high school.

37 Steps to 9th grade Choose an endorsement area: STEM, Arts & Humanities, Business & Industry, Public Service, or Multidisciplinary Choose a plan under the endorsement area. Go over with your parents and both sign plan. Fill out choice sheet for courses your 9th grade year. Enter courses in the computer before you leave for summer break.
