The Tensions between Britain and the Colonies led to armed conflict in Massachusetts

3 Lockdown Britain chooses to rule the colonies more severely after the Boston Tea Party Britain issues the intolerable acts to hurt Massachusetts and send a warning to all colonies The Intolerable act was used to drive the colonies apart but brought the colonies closer together

4 Act-ing up The Intolerable Acts Could:
Close Boston Harbor until the Tea was paid off Ban Committees of Correspondence Extend the quartering act in the colonies Let British Officials stand trial for crimes in Britain Appoint General Thomas Gage Governor of Massachusetts

5 The Birth of a Nation…..Almost
Delegates from all colonies except Georgia met at the First Continental Congress Colonies would stop all trade with Britain and Start training troops, including Georgia The colonies were not ready for Independence, but the steps were being taken to become a free country The Delegates would meet again in 7 months, but fighting would begin before then

6 Give me Liberty or Give me Death
Boycotts against the Intolerable Acts led to stronger restrictions in the colonies Jon Hancock began to prepare the Militia to fight in the event of war Leaders hoped the threat of war would be enough to end the intolerable acts, but war began to look more likely

7 Spy vs. Spy** Spies on Both sides gained information about the other Armies Through Spies General Gage ordered the Weapons at concord Destroyed and The arrest of Samuel Adams and Jon Hancock The sons of Liberty were prepared for such a plan

8 Blinded by the Lights Paul Revere and William Dawes would use a planned route to warn the colonies about troop movements Using Lanterns, Revere and Dawes would be able to Warn the colonists how the British were arriving When the British made their move Revere and Dawes Completed their Midnight Ride, and with the Help of Samuel Prescott warned concord of the attack

9 The Shot heard Round the World
Captain John Parker and his militia were waiting for the British troops with their weapons drawn When the First Shot was fired 8 militia men were killed and Britain was able to destroy supplies at concord before retreating at a bridge north of town 4000 Minutemen would arrive in Lexington and Concord to aide in the First battle of the Revolutionary war Patriots and Loyalists would be forced to pick their sides as the war began in the colonies
