CEN and its Associate Organizations operate as a collaborative – an entity where people work together collaboratively, through inspired action and learning to create and realize bold visions for their common future. Incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 1991.

5 What is the Housing Stability Initiative ?
The Southwestern Newfoundland Housing Stability Initiative (HSI) is a collective group of stakeholders working collaboratively to develop and implement a regional “housing first” action plan. HSI is committed to providing opportunities for social inclusion and support for individuals with complex needs who may be homeless or at risk of homelessness. Members are from; Various non-profit community based organizations Government Departments Faith Groups

30 day maximum stay 3 bedrooms/shared bath and a private family unit Live-In House Manager Referral/Admission Process Incorporated body with Board of Directors

11 Karen’s Place Two bedroom basement apartment attached to the Bay St. George Women’s Centre Provides affordable short-term stay housing for women and children 3-6 month maximum stay Application process Access to housing supports and programs and services provided by the Women’s Centre Independent Living (No Staff) Incorporated body with Charitable Status

13 Housing First Initiative for Youth
Homelessness Partnering Strategy Rural and Remote NL community-based program aimed at preventing and reducing homelessness by providing direct support and funding to communities across Canada.  CEN has received HPS funding to develop supportive housing for youth NLHC Leasing property to CEN for one dollar per year Official Announcement – May 29, 2017 RFP Process Being Finalized Renovations to Begin In May 2018 Official Opening Oct-Dec 2018

16 Community Cafe In 2011, the Southwestern Newfoundland Housing Stability Initiative launched their first Community Café. Hot home cooked meals, social activities and access to information and resources are provided. A variety of businesses, community partners and volunteers contribute to the Community Café. Contributions include donations of money and food; assistance with food preparation, serving and clean-up; live music; and provision of information, resources and community services. There are now two Community Cafés offered each month; Second Thursday each month – Stephenville Lions Club Fourth Thursday each month – Zion Pentecostal Church Since 2011, over 16,000 free meals have been served!!! *

17 Community Cafe The Community Café is open to all members of the community. Individuals who are unable to prepare a healthy meal, are socially isolated or have limited financial resources, are encouraged and welcome to enjoy food, fun and friendship at the Community Café. Each café is sponsored, either in kind and/or financially, by one or more community partners such as local businesses, faith groups, or service organizations.
