17 Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) ICT deals with the use of different communication technologies such as mobile phones, telephone, internet, etc. to locate, save, send and edit information.

19 The Philippines ICT Hub of Asia BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) Centers or call centers In 2012, there are 106.8 cellphones per 100 Filipinos or 1.068 cellphone per Filipino. Approximately, seven Filipinos you meet every day have two cellphones. Philippines is one of the countries that benefits most out of ICT.

20 The Philippines In 2010, the Annual Survey of Philippine Business and Industries, ICT industry shares 19.3% of total employment here in the Philippines. In 2013, Time magazine’s study using Instagram of the “The Selfiest Cities around the World” places two cities in the Philippines ranked 1 and 10. Philippines is one of the countries that benefits most out of ICT.

22 Web 2.0: Dynamic Web Pages Web 2.0 is a term coined by Darcy DiNucci on January 1999 in her article titled: “Fragmented Future” Web 2.0 is the evolution of Web 1.0 by adding dynamic web pages. WWW: World Wide Web Static: flat page or stationary page- it is “as – is” and cannot be manipulated. The content is the same for all users. Refered to as Web 1.0

23 Web 2.0: Dynamic Web Pages Dynamic-user is able to see a website differently than others. Examples: –Social networking sites –Blogs –Wikis –Video sharing sites –Hosted services –Web applications WWW: World Wide Web Static: flat page or stationary page- it is “as – is” and cannot be manipulated. The content is the same for all users. Refered to as Web 1.0

24 Web 2.0: Dynamic Web Pages Web 2.0 allows users to use web browsers instead of just using their operating system. Browsers can now be used for their user interface, application software (or web application), and even for file storage. Most websites today are Web 2.0.

27 Features of Web 2.0 Folksonomy-categorize and classify/arrange information using freely chosen keywords –Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, –Tags start with a pound sign (hashtag) Rich User Experience-dynamic and content is responsive to user’s input User participation-the owner is not the only one who is able to put content.

28 Features of Web 2.0 Long Tail- services that are offered on demand rather than on a one- time purchase. Subscribing to a data plan Software as a Service-slows you to “rent” a software for a minimal fee Mass Participation-diverse sharing of information through universal web access.

29 Web 3.0 and the Semantic Web Developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Term was coined by Tim Berner-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web Component of Web 3.0

30 Web 3.0 and the Semantic Web Provides a common framework that allows data to be shared and reused across application, enterprise, and community boundaries The aim is to have machines understand the user’s preferences to be able to deliver web content specifically targeting the user.

32 Problems with the Semantic Web Compatibility- HTML Files and current browsers could not support Web 3.0 Security- the user’s security is in question since preferences are saved Vastness- WWW already contains billions of web pages

33 Problems with the Semantic Web Vagueness-certain words are not precise. Logic-certain limitations for a computer to be able to predict what the user is referring to at a given time.
