1 Yr 7 Key tag

2 In order to achieve the standards set out in the curriculum, you are required to complete several tasks (CATs). When completed, these CATs make up a full unit of work and will be theory and prac based. You may use the booklet to complete the required work or you may present the work as a PowerPoint, Word Document, etc. Throughout the unit of work, you will follow the design process.

3 Throughout this unit of work you will gain knowledge, and develop your skills in the following:
Researching a design Tools and their uses Researching and Investigating Sketching/Drawing/Designing Production Processes Analysing and Evaluating Risk Assessment Planning and time-management

4 Brief You are to design and create an engraved keyring.
The image should be interesting CONSTRAINTS (MUST do): The image is to fit on a piece of acrylic 70mm x 45mm The image used must be imported and manipulated to become a monochrome image Plastic colour is subject to availability CONSIDERATIONS (YOUR choice): Type of image Addition of text (eg…. Name) Colour of engraved image optional

5 CAT1 SKILLS Research and Investigation Sketching/Drawing/Shading

6 CAT 1 Getting to know the basics!
Part A Using the text book Introducing Technology Pages 76 – 80. Complete the worksheet 4.4 pg 29 in your work book Technology Activity Manual. Part B Use PDF “Plastics” in Compass resources of the Text book Design Technology: Resistant materials to GCSE Read and answer the following questions 5.1 Q’s 1, 2 & 3 5.2 Q’s 1,2 & 3 5.5 Q’s 1 5.6 Q’s 1 & 2 5.7 Q’s 3

11 CAT3 SKILLS Preferred design option/ Final design (including annotations)

12 Choosing you preferred design option:
Pick one of the images and validate why you chose this design. Place your preferred option in monochrome in the space provided. Final design option Justify your design choice: Explain why you like this image the most. _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________ _________________________________________________________________________

13 Terms to help you to justify your preferred option Write the definition of each term in the appropriate column. Elements of Design Definition Principals of design Shape Proportion Line Balance Texture Symmetry Transparent Asymmetry Pattern Repetition Space Contrast

19 CAT6 SKILLS Self Evaluation

20 CAT 6: Evaluation Answer the following questions in a paragraph. THINK about……….. Have I ever been late to class? Do I always have the equipment I need (including shoes)? Do I use my class time well? What is my behaviour like………am I respectful? Do I make an effort to catch up with my work when I have had time off? Do I complete follow-up learning tasks? Do I always complete work to the best of my ability? What did I learn? What could I improve on next time? _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
