** Tentatively scheduled/Admin. send home specific grades and subjects in Thursday folders this week
*Could someone check and see what the dates are for this year? I could only find May 18-21, but no dates for the science and ss summative. Check with Mr. Macquire for these dates. This is the testing window for this year. Last year, retest 1 was given to students who scored a level 2 on the EOG in reading and/or math. Parents had to opt in to retest students who scored a level 1 on the reading or math EOG. Previously, it was only administered at the gateway years (grades 3, 5, and 8).

Students can have up to 2 and ½ times the allotted time for the test. Students who have not completed the test in 115 minutes generally are moved to another room to finish. *note: students get a stretch break and are escorted to the bathroom. They can write in their test booklet and are given scratch paper.

8. How can I help my child in Reading?
Provide your child with a variety of suitable reading materials and discuss the purpose of different text types, such as fiction, letters, newspaper articles, journals, etc.
Read aloud to and with your child and take time to discuss the interesting books you and your child have read.
Share and discuss articles, diagrams, charts, illustrations, and maps with your child.
Ask your child open-ended questions that cannot be answered with a single word or a single phrase (e.g., Why? How do you know? Explain Tell me about Give me examples.)

14. How can I help my child in Math?
Do math with your child at home as problem-solving partners. Use word problems. Have your child explain how he or she is solving the problems.
Make a list of all the ways your family uses mathematics at home:
Newspapers and weather reports include charts, graphs, data, and statistics
Sporting events provide data and statistics
The grocery store affords an opportunity for counting money (decimals, estimation)
Recipes can be modified (proportions and fractions)
Road trips encourage map reading and distance, time, and gasoline mileage problems
