1 Year 10: Exam Technique

2 Narrative analysis = 8 marks, 15 minutes.
You are given two points, and must add a third of your own. Remember do not just tell a story, you must explain how the events lead to the outcome. Events should be sequenced and in chronological order. Ensure that you are showing links between events and always linking back to the main point within the question. Write a narrative account analysing the main developments in US- Soviet relations in the years 1947 – 49. You may use the following in your answer: The Truman Doctrine The creation of NATO You must use information of your own. First of all.. What other information could you include into your answer? The first development in US-Soviet relations in the years between was the creation of the Truman doctrine. The Truman doctrine was a major development in US policy, announced by President Harry Truman in It promised increased American involvement in European affairs, it also introduced the policy of containment. Containment was the idea that the US would ensure, by various means, that Communism was not able to spread across Europe. However, this policy demonstrated America’s anti-Soviet approach, meaning that it increased tensions between Stalin and the West. Stalin felt threatened by America’s involvement in Europe, as well as by Truman’s blatant anti-Soviet sentiment.
