4 How did Bothell come to be?
Populated by the Sammammish Tribe until 1870’s 1870 Colombus Greeleaf and George Wilson built homes, followed by 8 families in next 6 years 1876 George Brackett (Canadian) built logging camp Now Brackett’s Landing 1885 Sold 80 acres to David Bothell (Pennsylvanian) First postmaster (Gerhard Erickson) bought property in and named town

Incorporated in 1909 Logging and Boating transportation town Shortly after, Army Corp of Engineers dredged and straightened the River 1917 Lake Washington Lowered, boat traffic ended, logging stopped Brick road built to Seattle and Bothell became farming town Mural in downtown Bothell highlighting how it came to be

Post WWII: Better highways built and suburban development Pop. of 1,000 in 1950 Now: Much of employment in high technology sectors Biotechnology and software Cascadia and branch campus of UW (UWB)
