3 What is Neighborhood Improvement Neighborhood Improvement is… People coming together to create a safe, nurturing and stimulating environment with all the necessary resources to ensure the success of children, youth and families in the Osborn Community This will be accomplished by developing programs that Address Home Ownership and Repair Improve Parks and Open Spaces Supports and Youth Friendly Environment, and Promotes Neighborhood Pride

4 The Assets in Osborn Over 14,000 Youth live in the area Homeownership Rate is 66% Increasing Cultural Diversity Strong Business Ownership Osborn High School & Brenda Scott Libraries, recreation Centers, and Houses of Worship St. John Conner Creek

5 Opportunities for Improvement Over 35.8% of the population are children living in poverty Unemployment is higher than the city, state, and national average Single Family Households represent 30% of the houses

6 The Future Quality of Life Improve the environment to address chronic illness, and health issues Availability of jobs and job training programs for residents Dealing with the illegal dumping issue Lowering crime rate Clean up of alleys, vacant lots, debris removal

7 The Future Invest in community recreation facilities Develop a plan for reuse of vacant school sites Invest money in schools (Osborn School Pool) Create 250 block clubs Establish Osborn Merchants Association
