In November – Election Day – Voters vote for Electors representing the person they want for President Electors actually elect the president Most states have “ Winner Takes All” Winner must win 270 Electoral Votes.

What do you think is the hardest part of the president’s role as commander in chief? Basic goals are the same – protecting the U.S., but presidents today do not go into battle & deal with an unknown enemy (terrorism) The difficult decision of sending sons & fathers into battle.

8 After the Election After the election – the Electoral College meets in their state capitals to cast their ballots in December. In January – Congress counts the Electoral votes & a winner is officially declared. If no candidate wins the majority of electoral votes, the House of Representatives will choose the President with one vote for each state.

Each president followed Washington’s lead of only two terms until FDR ran for a third term in 1940 & a fourth term in 1944. 22nd Amendment was passed in 1951 limiting terms to two.

The Speaker of the House and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate come after the VP Clearly defined succession maintains order in case of emergency
