1 WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT NEPAL’S GOVERNMENT

2 Nepal’s Independence In 1923, Britain recognized the absolute independence of Nepal Between 1846 and 1951 The country was ruled by the Rana family, which was always held the office of prime minister. In 1951,however, the king took over all power and proclaimed a constitutional monarchy.

3 Nepal’s Independence ( continued)
The government of Nepal is the executive body and the central government of Nepal. Prior to the abolition of the monarchy, it was officially know as his Majesty’s Government. The Head Of State is the president and the prime minister holds the position of Head of Executive. The presidents job is to function the government while the prime minister is appointed by the Parliament. Nepal has four different government types. Republic, federation, Federal republic, and parliamentary republic.

4 Nepal Conflicts Nepal is one of the worlds poorest countries.
One large conflict was the Nepalese Civil War. This claimed the lives of 17,00 people, displaced an estimated 100,00 more. This brought the end of a 240- year old monarchy. The declaration of a National State of Emergency in both 2001 and 2005 caused further political instability and restricted a wide range of civil liberties, a move that was met with criticism abroad

5 Nepal’s Military Conflicts
There were three major wars in the country of Nepal. This includes the Nepalese Civil War, Battle of Nalapani/ and Anglo-Napalese war of

6 Nepalese Civil War Armed conflict between the communist party of Nepal and The government Fought from 1996 to 2006 The location was in Nepal The result was Maoist Compromised Another result was the end of a two and a half century long monarchy.

7 Battle of Nalapani The first battle of the Anglo- Nepalese war of Fought between the forces of the British East India Company and Nepal. Later than ruled by the House of Gorkha. The location was Dehradun, India East India Company won the battle

8 Anglo- Nepalese War Fought between the kingdom of Nepal and the East India company As a result of border disputes and ambitious expansions of both the belligerent parties The result was The Treaty of Sugauli territory under Nepal's control ceded to the British.

9 Nepal’s GDP/Economy Nepal's has a GDP of 20.88 billion USD (2015)
Currency- Nepalese Rupee (NPR) Trade organizations: WTO and SAFTA GDP- $67 Billion GDP growth- 0.77% GDP per capita- $2,400
