As Germany, Italy, and Japan conquered other countries the rest of the world did nothing.

3. Why it Matters Now
Because of what happened in W.W.II. nations today take a more active role in international affairs through the United Nations. (U.N.)
The U.N. developed out of the League of Nations

4. Setting the Stage
Germany Italy and Japan were conquering large parts of the world.
Fascism was spreading across the world driven by powerful armies of Nazi Germany, Italy & Imperial Japan. .

6. Germany Begins to Expand.
Appeasement
Neville Chamberlin waves a copy of the Munich agreement “we have peace in our time...” He believed Germany would honor the agreement.
Less than 1-year Germany attacks Poland & WWII starts

7. Japan Moves Toward Aggression
1922 Japan signs non-aggression treaty
By 1937 they are attacking Manchuria China.

8. Italy Invades Ethiopia
1935 Italy invades Ethiopia as Mussolini tries to Rebuild Roman Empire
America stays neutral.

9. Germany Attacks 1936 Germany moves into the Rheinland
Hitler plans to absorb Austria and Czechoslovakia in the Third Reich. Germany is a major threat to world peace.

11. Munich Conference 1939 Munich Conference held.
England France appease Germany and believe peace has been made
Germany promises not to attack any more nations.

12. W.W.II Starts
Germany forgets the agreement and in Nazi Germany attacks Poland.
Crushing Poland within weeks with “Blitzkrieg” Lightening war.
England and France declare war on Germany, but are not prepared.

13. Ok, what have we learned so far?
Germany rebuilt under Hitler
Wanted some small territory, but promised not to attack Poland.
Singed agreement but attacked in 1939

14. What else?
Mussolini was busy attacking Ethiopia and promising the Italian people to “rebuild the Roman Empire.”

15. Next... The Axis powers started to take over more land.
France and England...said ok, take those lands but no more or so. This was “appeasement”

16. Axis powers go to far Germany attacks Czech. Allies say no more.
Germany ignores them and in they attack Poland...WWII starts.

17. Meanwhile
While Germany is conquering Europe Japan is building an empire in China and Asia.

18. Japan goes too far. Japan attacks United States at Pearl Harbor
America ends it isolationism and enters war.
“Today, Dec. 7, 1941 will be a day remembered in infamy”-Franklin D. Roosevelt after the Pearl Harbor attack.
