2 When/where is the fair? Thursday, October 5th, :30pm to 7:45pm Gordon Commons, Concerto, Overture, and Sonata meeting rooms

How do I dress? BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL!

4 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR GUYS?
Dark business suit Conservative dress shirt Tie Dress shoes (shine them if you can) You don’t need a suit to look business professional. Polished shoes can add a nice touch, but are not necessary

5 WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR GIRLS?
Pant Suit or Skirt (Black or Grey) Knee length fitted but not tight skirts Dresses are also ok with a blazer Conservative dress blouse Hosiery (optional no longer needed) Pumps or Flats (closed-toe, heel)- whatever makes you comfortable You don’t need a suit to look business professional. Skirts should be knee-length at least, and be a looser fit

6 What not to wear Casual clothing/footwear Strong fragrances
Ex: Jeans, T-shirts, Polo's, tight dresses, revealing shirts Strong fragrances Excessive jewelry/make- up Casual clothing could Include polos, jeans, sweats, shorts, t-shirts, sneakers, etc.

7 What should I bring? 15-20 resumes Padfolio, pens Company research
Base on the number of companies you’ll speak to Padfolio, pens Company research WSB Nametag Student ID! You do NOT need: Transcripts References Cover letters Do not bring gum! It is distracting, so if you need to freshen your breath use a mint

Order nametags, print resumes, order business cards, & thank you notes BBA Advising Center (3150 Grainger) Drop-In Career Advising for Admitted BBA Students: 11:30-1:30pm M/W/F 2-4pm Tu/Th Career Advising can look over your resume Appointments can be scheduled through Scheduling Assistant

9 Before the fair… Pick up and review the Risk and Insurance Career Fair booklet 5252 Grainger Update your Buckynet account Apply to job postings on BuckyNet Create a list of employers you are interested in Research! Risk and Insurance Career Fair booklet Company websites News Prepare questions to ask employers Not judging questions about the company- also cover this in good and bad representations of what to say

10 What Questions to Ask Do: Don’t Use questions to demonstrate research
Ask about new articles, things on website, etc. Show interest in their personal experience Ask if they went through internship, their entry level responsibilities Ask about internship programs Don’t Ask for a job Ask obvious questions that can be found easily on their website Ask contentious questions Ask too detailed of questions

11 During the fair Upon meeting a company representative:
Greet the representative with a smile and firm handshake Make eye contact Engage in conversation UW alums will have a Bucky sticker on their nametag How much time should I spend speaking with an employer? Be respectful of representatives’/other students’ time 2-3 people in line? ~2-5 minutes 4+ people in line? ~30 seconds-5 minutes Perhaps start with a “warmup” company Read the employer to see if giving a resume at the start is a good idea

12 During the fair Upon leaving a company representative:
Thank the representative for his/her time with a smile and firm handshake Ask for a business card Ask about the best means of following-up Leave a resume Take notes on your conversation Business students: Free business cards are available in 3290, consider giving to employers

13 During the fair General Be professional Be enthusiastic
Be engaged (ask questions!) Prepare to speak with companies who are not on your list Share your qualifications with employers (transferable skills?) Wear your nametag on the right side of your shirt Visit a “warm up” company or two to get ready Remember you need to find the right fit for you

14 After the fair Write thank you e-mails
Thank representatives for their time Restate interest in company, available positions, and interviews Mention something unique about conversation Briefly describe qualifications (anything you failed to mention at the fair?) Connect with representatives on LinkedIn Create an employer database Business card info Notes from conversation Emphasize a unique point about the company in a thank you . Show that you remember what you learned at the career fair and have done appropriate research. Focus on sending s to companies that you are interested in.
