16 Discipline: Clip Chart
At RAIS, we have implemented the Rick Morris Behavioral Clip Chart, which is a "simple discipline strategy for promoting positive behavior". Student choices are tracked on a Clip Chart. All students begin the day on green. Clips are moved up or down depending on their choices throughout the day. Clips that are moved down may be moved back up if the teacher sees the student making improved choices. In addition, once a clip is moved up, it may be moved down. All clips are moved back to green at the end of the day. Students start out on Green each day (ready to learn) Good choice = clip up  Bad choice = clip down

17 Discipline: Clip Chart continued
All students begin the day on Ready To Learn. They will move up or down during the day depending on the choices they make. This is an acceptable level to stay at. They did not get in trouble; it just means they didn’t go “above and beyond.” Students move to Good Day for making good choices, trying their best, and showing good character. This is a good level to end the day on. Students move to Great Job for continuing to make good choices throughout the day. Please congratulate your student when they reach this level! If students move their clip to Outstanding they receive a special note to take home. This level is reserved for extraordinary behavior, and will not be given out loosely. I want this to remain special; please don’t expect your student to reach this level daily.

18 Discipline: Clip Chart continued
Students move to Think About it as a reminder that they need to follow the classroom rules. When students move to Teacher’s Choice the teacher will choose an appropriate consequence. It could be taking a time out, loss of recess time, loss of privileges or whatever is logical for the misbehavior and meaningful to the student. Students who move to Parent Contact sit at the Reflection Center and reflect on their choice by completing a Think Sheet. The school councilor will be informed and she will set a parent/ teaching conference.

19 Take-Home Folders/Homework Policy
Plastic pocket folder. Sent home daily, return daily. Used for homework and completed papers. Used to teach organization and independence. Homework policy: Homework is given in a maximum of 2 subjects on any single day. Homework usually does not exceed 30 minutes per subject by day. (i.e. a total of 1 hour of homework per day) Please understand that homework is a necessary part of learning. HOMEWORK IS POSTED ON THE CLASSROOM WEBSITE DAILY BY 3PM.

20 SOAR/Reading Logs SOAR stands for Simply Open and Read. Students will partake in reading their favorite book for at least 20 minutes (or more) per week! They will also be entered into a school wide classroom challenge to see which class has read the most books! Each child will have access to a reading log as I will post the reading log on to my website, so that it can be downloaded at home and printed. Reading logs should be bought in every Sunday. We will record these minutes on our SOAR chart which is posted just outside the classroom. If your child wishes to read more, then encourage them to read on their own. This will only help them to improve independent reading!

21 Classroom websites I will each of you the link to my classroom’s website. On my website you will find all upcoming events, upcoming test dates, additional practice resources, homework etc.
