2. Intro
Students will trace the origin of symbolism, imagery and metaphor in art and demonstrate the use of these visual devices in their artworks by creating self-portrait still life's.

3. Intro Continued
Students will compare and contrast the artistic styles and subject matter in artworks by artists of different cultures and time periods by navigating through various websites to find the symbolic significance of still life's or Vanitas first used in the Baroque/Rococo period. The first is from the artist Harmen Steenwyck called Vanitas Still-life done in 1630 and the second done by artist Audrey Flack in 1977.
