1 Art Syllabus  In Art, students will learn about various artists, their art and the context in which it was created. Students will research, explore, and present various artistic themes and movements throughout history. In doing so, students develop a greater understanding of his or her specific role on the arts, be it creator, consumer, or critic.  Art allows students to creatively explore the world around them by observing, composing, constructing and reflecting. This process requires students to use the skills and techniques of different media, artists and historical and cultural movements.

4 Studio Projects 8 total projects this year You will not receive an ‘F’ on a project. If you put forth effort, you will receive at least a ‘D’. If there is not enough effort, the project will not be graded until the final grade is at least a ‘D’.

5 ABCDTotal Elements and Principles Planned carefully, made sketches, and showed an awareness of the elements and principles of design; chose color scheme carefully, used space effectively. The artwork shows that the student applied the principles of design while using one or more elements effectively; showed an awareness of filling the space adequately. The assignment was completed and turned in, but showed little evidence of any understanding of the elements and principles of art; no evidence of planning. The student did the minimum or the artwork was never completed. Creativity/ Originality The student explored several choices before selecting one; changes on several ideas; made connections to previous knowledge; demonstrated understanding problem solving skills. The student tried a few ideas before selecting one; or based his or her work on someone else's idea; made decisions after referring to one source; solve the problem in logical way. The student fulfilled the assignment, but gave no evidence of trying anything original. The student showed no evidence of original thought. Effort/ Perseverance The project was continued until it was as complete as the student could make it; gave it effort far beyond that required The student worked hard and completed the project, but with more effort it might have been outstanding. The project was completed with minimum effort. The student did not finish the work adequately. Craftsmanship / Skill/ Consistency The artwork was well assembled and patiently done; it was as successful as hard work could make it. With a little more effort, the work could have been outstanding; lacked the finishing touches. The student showed below average craftsmanship, lack of refinement in finished work. The student showed poor craftsmanship; unfinished or lack of understanding.
