1.Why do scientists use the Metric System?
The whole world uses it The Metric system is easier SI-International System

2. What are the basic units of the Metric System?
Vocabulary Words Mass - the amount of matter in an object Mass is always same (moon, Earth, Jupiter) Weight- the measure of the amount of matter in an object’s mass and the way gravity pulls on it. Weight changes (Moon –lighter; Jupiter-heavier) Length-meter (m) Includes Distance and height Mass-grams (g) Temperature- Celsius(°C) Liquid Volume -liter (L) Density- 𝑔𝑟𝑎𝑚𝑠 𝑐𝑚 3 Time- second (s)

SI Units The worldwide scientific community uses an adaptation of the metric system called Systeme International d’Unites or SI. The SI system of measurement uses seven base quantities. Other units, called derived units, are created by combining the base units in various ways. Mathematics and Physics Copyright © McGraw-Hill Education

3. What are the prefixes used?
SI Units Prefixes are used to change SI base units to powers of 10. Mathematics and Physics Copyright © McGraw-Hill Education

Length Using the upper measuring tool: Using the lower measuring tool:
The length is between cm and 9.60 cm. The length is between cm and 10 cm. The measurement would be estimated to the nearest hundredth of a centimeter. The measurement would be estimated to the nearest tenth of a centimeter.
