1 Scripture reading: Hebrews 2:1-3

2 Every question deserves an answer

3 Children’s Questions:
“Daddy, why do you have a beard under your arms?” “Mommy, how did the baby get in your stomach?”

4 “How will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?”
A Question With No Answer Hebrews 2:3 “How will we escape if we neglect so great a salvation?”

5 It is great in what it costs!
“So great a salvation” It is great in what it costs! The angel to Joseph: “call him Jesus, for he will save his people from their sins” Mt 1:21 The angel to the shepherds: “there is born this day to you a Savior” Luke 1:11 1 Timothy 2:6 “Christ Jesus who gave himself a ransom for all” Heaven sings: Revelation 5:9 “with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe, language, people and nation” Jesus Paid It All!

6 It is great in what it accomplishes! It saves us from condemnation:
Ephesians 2:1 “You were dead in trespasses and sins” Mark 16:16 “He who believes and is baptized shall be saved, but he who does not believe shall be condemned.”

7 He saves us from eternal consequences
Revelation 14:11 “The smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever, and they have no rest, day or night, these worshipers of the beast and its image, and whoever receives the mark of its name.”

8 It is great in what it promises!
Eternal life in a new heaven and earth Rich Young Ruler ~ Mk 10:17 “What must I do to inherit eternal life?” Woman at Jacob’s well ~ John 4:14 “Whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

9 Some have excelled in escaping
2. “How shall we escape . . .?” Some have excelled in escaping David escaped from King Saul - 1 Sam 19:10 Joseph, Mary & Jesus from Herod - Mt 2:13 Christians from Jerusalem before Roman siege – Luke 21:36 Paul in a basket from Damascus – Acts 9:25

10 No Escape! 1 Thessalonians 5:3
“While people are saying, ‘There is peace and security,’ then sudden destruction will come upon them as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.” No Escape!

11 Those “in Christ” have no need
to escape! Romans 8:1 “There is now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus”

12 Verses 31-34 “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? Who shall bring any charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is there to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—who is at the right hand of God, who indeed is interceding for us.”

13 3. “if we neglect . . .” We are all weak and imperfect!
Paul’s letter to the Corinthians: “those sanctified in Christ” Yet: Divided, proud, self-centered, insensitive, envious, held doctrinal error! Every letter Paul wrote, he wrote to imperfect Christians!

14 We must keep on keeping on!
Hebrews 3:6 “Christ as a Son over His own house, whose house we are if we hold fast to the end.” Hebrews 3:14 “We have become partakers of Christ if we hold the beginning of our confidence steadfast to the end.”

15 Hebrews was written to warn those
about to fall away! 6:6 “if they fall away they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame.” 10:29 “Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot . . .” 10:39 “We are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.”

16 It can come abruptly or we can drift away!
Hebrews 2:1 “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away.” It can come abruptly or we can drift away!

17 2 Peter 1:10 “Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to make your calling and election sure, for if you do these things you will never fall.”
