3 Roshna Sapkal EXAMPLE Hydraulic System- Actuators/Cylinders and Pumps
Mechatronics ELECTRICAL 3rd YEAR UG STUDENTS IN ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING BVCOEW, Savitribai Phule Pune University EXAMPLE

4 Out-of-class Segment This section helps you design the Out-of-Class segment of Flipped Classroom Strategy.

5 Out-of-class Activity Design-1
Learning Objective(s) of Out-of-Class Activity At the end of watching the videos student should be able to Explain the necessity of using actuators and working principle of different types of cylinders (Understand Level). Determine volumetric Flow rate in a cylinder using applied force and area (Apply Level). Explain different types of pumps with its working mechanism (Understand Level). Compare different types of Hydraulic pumps with its advantages and disadvantages (Apply Level). Key Concept(s) to be covered Actuators . Hydraulic pumps. EXAMPLE

Aligning Assessment with Learning Objective Learning Objective Assessment Strategy Expected Duration (in min) Additional Instructions (if any) Explain Necessity of using actuators and working principle with its types. Q1. What is necessity of using actuators? Q2. Explain the working principle of single acting cylinder and double acting cylinders with a neat diagram. 10 minutes Watch V1 and Pause the video at 0.15 then answer Q1(Marks-2). Watch V2 and then answer about single acting cylinder and watch V3 for double acting. Q2(Marks-8) *Full marks will be given after submitting the assignment on time

8 Out-of-class Activity Design - 3
Aligning Assessment with Learning Objective Learning Objective Assessment Strategy Expected Duration (in min) Additional Instructions (if any) Determine volumetric Flow rate in a cylinder using applied force and area Q1. A hydraulic cylinder is to be used to move a work piece in manufacturing operation through a distance of 50 mm in 10 s. A force of 10 kN is required to move the work piece. Determine the required working pressure and hydraulic liquid flow rate if a cylinder with a piston diameter of 100 mm is available. Q2. A hydraulic system is operated at pressure of 1000 kPa. what diameter cylinder will be required to a load requiring a force 12kN? 10 minutes Watch V3-pause the video at 3.20 and then answer Q1 and Q2. Q1)- 8 Marks and Q2)- 6 Marks Q1- (Hint: flow rate Q= velocity*Area , Area= πr2 =π(d/2)2) ( Ans:1.27 Mpa, 3.9x 10-5 m3/s) Q2- (Hint: Area= πr2 =π(d/2)2) Ans 124mm.

9 Out-of-class Activity Design - 3
Aligning Assessment with Learning Objective Learning Objective Assessment Strategy Expected Duration (in min) Additional Instructions (if any) Explain different types of pumps with its working mechanism Q1. What is the function of Hydraulic Pump? Q2. Write short note on following: a. Gear Pump and its types b. Rotary Vane Pump c. Swash plate Piston Pump 10 minutes Watch V4 and then answer Q2 along with neat diagrams. Q1- 2 Marks Q2- 8 Marks

10 Out-of-class Activity Design - 3
Aligning Assessment with Learning Objective Learning Objective Assessment Strategy Expected Duration (in min) Additional Instructions (if any) Compare different types of Hydraulic pumps with its advantages and disadvantages Q1. Differentiate between External and Internal Gear pumps. Q2. Comparison of Rotary Vane Pump and Swash Plate Piston Pump 5 minutes Watch V4 –Pause at 6.42 and 7.43 then answer Q1. Watch V4 from 7.48 and then answer Q2. Q1 and Q2- 4 Marks(Mention its advantages and disadvantages) Submit answers to all questions 3 hours before coming to class. Total activity duration 35 minutes
