4 Out-of-class Activity Design -1
Learning Objective(s) of Out-of-Class Activity At the end of watching this video, students should be able to What is inheritance? Give real life example of inheritance Design inheritance structure for any application Key Concept(s) to be covered Inheritance

6 Out-of-class Activity Design - 3
Aligning Assessment with Learning Objective Learning Objective Assessment Strategy Expected duration (in min) Additional Instructions (if any) Understand the concept of Inheritance 1. Write down two which class can be inherited as a child of class vehicle. 2. Also write down, generic and specific methods 12 mins Pause at time 4.34 mins and then give answer of the question 1. After completion of video give the answer of question 2 Submit your answers 2 hours before the class. Expected activity duration : 12 mins

7 In-class Activity Design -1
Learning Objective(s) of In - Class Activity At the end of the class, students will be able to, Connect concept of Inheritance with real world. Key Concept(s) to be covered Application of Inheritance

8 In-class Activity Design -2
Active Learning activity(ies) that you plan to do Real world example where inheritance can be implemented using- Think-Pair-Share

9 In-class Activity Design -2
TPS Strategy - What Teacher will do? First provide Premise Consider following two scenarios. A company is having different departments and all the departments have employees. The perimeter of polygon can be calculated by adding lengths of its all sides but area can be calculated using different formulas. A polygon can be triangle, quadrilateral, octagon etc…

10 In-class Activity Design -2
TPS Strategy - What Teacher will do? Think ~4 mins Instruction: Given the two cases – Think in which case inheritance can be implemented. Also think, while implementing inheritance, which kind of a relationship a child class will have with the parent class.

11 In-class Activity Design -2
TPS Strategy - What Teacher will do? Pair ~5 mins Instruction: Now pair up and compare your answers. Agree on one final answer. While students are pairing and discussing, instructor goes to 2~3 sections to see what they are doing. I have seen that the students are rigorously discussing with their partner and there are many difference of opinions between them. I counter questioned some students to direct their thought process.

12 In-class Activity Design -2
TPS Strategy - What Teacher will do? Share ~10 mins Instructor asks a group to share their answer with class and see whether there are different answers. After sharing is done, instructor gives feedback on the correct solution. I cleared doubts of some students about what kind of relationship a child class have with the parent class by giving more examples. Students were able to get the concept and connect it with real world examples. In next TPS activity, I will tell students to Design an inheritance class structure and given generic and specific methods. By paring up the students, I will be able to get more answers and by sharing, the students will get idea about the methods in parent and child classes.

13 In-class Activity Design -2
TPS - What Student will do? For each question they will first vote individually. Then they will discuss with peers and come to consensus. Listen to instructors explanation.

14 In-class Activity Design -2
Justify why the above is an active learning strategy In the above strategy, students are required to go beyond mere listening and think about the real world to come with example of inheritance. They are required to connect the concept of inheritance with the real world entities and find out where it will be applicable. By sharing they will get to know other directions which they were not thinking. The out of class segment was considered as assignment and given weight age of 5 marks. I have also given feedback to some students as their thinking was really in a right direction.
