EQ’s: How were American’s able to win the Revolutionary War? Describe Republicanism and how American’s wanted their new government ran (Use details!).

2 Victory Influences the World
American victory in Revolutionary War reshaped the world Europe basically loses control in North America People used ideas from Declaration of Independence for their own revolutions French Revolution

3 How did we win? Americans were victorious for a number of reasons:
Better leadership Foreign assistance (Thanks France!) Knowledge of the land Motivation (more to lose)

4 Effect on Britain Defeat of British hurt England economically, as trade revenues sharply declined Shocking defeat of British military would weaken its reputation In many respects, the British would see their era of dominance end

5 Republicanism Americans knew they didn’t want monarchy
Used idea of republicanism instead: People put the good of the country first (ahead of themselves) Government rule would be based on the will of the people, instead of a king American’s wanted their government to obtain its authority from the citizens and be responsible to them

7 Religion and Slavery Some colonies made sure religious freedom was a crucial part of new government Some colonies take steps to outlaw slavery, however it still existed in South New republic would face huge questions on how to govern its people

9 Meanwhile, slavery became even more entrenched in the South.

11 New Government New U.S. government based in part on English Bill of Rights, in which government is based on laws that protect people and not based on desires (or Whims) of a ruler. English Parliamentary tradition was also used, in which two chambers of law-making bodies were established in the U.S. Constitution
