9 Weight Problems Overweight is defined as a body that is 10 percent over desirable body weight. An adult who has a BMI between 25 and 29.9 is considered overweight. Obesity is defined as a body that is 20 percent or more above desirable body weight. An adult who has a BMI of 30 or higher is considered obese.
